Oh Baby Baby

So… I’m pregnant. It’s a big, new adventure, bringing a new human being into this wild world. And it has given me a lot to think about.
Just a little about me for those of you who are new here, or haven’t had the opportunity to meet me. I will have owned Enlightened Beauty for 8 years in May of 2025. Our company has evolved into what it is today through some big changes through those first few years of business ownership. Our mission, our goals, our team members and the way we run our company, have all changed. Covid really shook me up and got me pushed in the direction I knew I had to grow into - a new and different way of doing salon and spa business. We’re weird and we like it that way.
Enlightened Beauty was and will always be my first baby. I have raised her into who she is today. She has taught me just as much as I have grown with her. I’ve had to make some tough calls, and have had things happen that were out of my control. But one thing I’ve never done is give up. Have I wanted to a few times? Oh, hell yes. Walking away would have been the easier decision a time or two. But I know why I created Enlightened Beauty, and I know that she will always be a part of me, in one way, shape or form. This is a commitment for a lifetime.
And then there are our fur babies… the whole mess of them. They are our children. My partner, Sam, and I take the best care of them we possibly can every day. I’ve had my first cat, Donte, for a little over 15 years. We’ve had Cadie, our first dog, for a little over 5 years, and Winnie, our second dog, for a little over 4 years. We decided to take in my Grandma’s two cats a little over 2 years ago; one is Fraidy and has become a part of our zoo, and the other one we are searching for a forever home for. Her name is Honey. She is 7 years old and hasn’t integrated into our family the way we had hoped. Fast forward to this year, and we are welcoming our first human baby into the world this summer. We have started getting the room ready, we have maternity photos and the baby shower scheduled, and have all of our prenatal appointments booked up until my due date, which is July 4th, 2025. Now we wait, and think, and process, and try to slow down enough to enjoy these last few months of “married life without kids”.
Over the last few months, I have been training my team to take over for me when I am gone. I’ve been practicing this whole salon and spa game for a little over 16 years now, and I am instilling as much knowledge and skill into my team members before I let them fly free for 4 months. It’s an uncomfortable and exciting time of change for us all, and I can't wait to see how the team takes care of my first born while I’m away. <3 I can only do as much as I can until then, and trust that what I have built has a strong enough foundation to thrive without me.
